In a bid to reshape the modern office ecosystem, global design and build company Tétris has assembled a team of visionary artists and designers to breathe new life into old office furniture. Upcycle: Office Furniture Reimagined aims to demonstrate how design has the potential to embrace circularity to shape more conscious workspaces.
From Congolese artist Patrick Bongoy’s symbolic artworks, to the vibrant creations of Studio Ananta, this exhibition promises a fresh perspective on workspace aesthetics.
Leading the charge are renowned figures like Adrian Davidson and Amaury Watine, whose innovative designs have left an indelible mark on the industry. Alongside them, South African talents Helen Wentzel and Tshepiso Lesufi bring a wealth of experience in sustainable design, infusing local flair into the global conversation.
Wiid Design’s Laurie Wiid will showcase a sculptural birdhouse crafted from repurposed office dustbins, pushing the boundaries of material innovation. Meanwhile, Nisha and Justus Van der Hoven of Hoven Design will unveil their experimental approach to workspace architecture, offering a glimpse into the future of office environments.
The exhibition not only highlights the environmental impact of discarded office furniture but also showcases the immense potential for transforming waste into functional and beautiful pieces.
Upcycle is set to run from 19 to 20 April 2024 at Makers Landing at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.
Entrance is free and open to the public. On Saturday 20 April at 11h00, there will also be a free curated walkabout with the designers.
