Zambia Airways launches a Lusaka to Johannesburg route

Zambia Airways officially launched a Lusaka to Johannesburg route on 1 June 2023. The route will rotate twice daily, seven days a week.

This initiative allows for greater market access to support growth and competition through focused demand stimulation and supports the following strategic goals: promotion of trade and tourism; increase the contribution to accelerated economic growth; increase the mobility of the regional market, promotion of a sustainable aviation industry; and environmental responsibility.

The number of visitors from Zambia to Johannesburg continues to increase, and the availability of a direct flight will further increase the number of visitors travelling to visit friends, see the scenery, go on vacation and attend events. This will greatly contribute to the Gauteng economy.

Zambia Airways representatives in Johannesburg have been working with the Gauteng Air Access team on the new route and requested that Gauteng Air Access, represented by the Gauteng Tourism Authority (GTA), assist with the promotion of and publicity for the inaugural flight. The air access initiative aims to support Gauteng’s GGT2030 strategy by facilitating economic growth through greater alignment with the tourism and trade markets and unblocking obstacles to growth.

“We’re excited to see tourism, trade and investment growth through an increase in flights, improved schedules, and the deployment of larger aircraft to carry more passengers and cargo,” said GTA Chief Executive Officer Sthembiso Dlamini.

This demonstrated GTA’s support of the Gauteng Air Access initiative and the importance of the Zambia Airways route to the Gauteng economy.

The Lusaka to Johannesburg route will increase connectivity between two important destinations in Southern Africa, thus increasing the opportunity for trade, investment and business and leisure tourism.
