In a fast-evolving landscape, now is the time to strategise. SimplyBiz, powered by Nedbank, has introduced an innovative free business bootcamp series called Shifting Gears aimed at helping entrepreneurs respond effectively to changing circumstances.

Now Shifting Gears is giving business owners the chance to win a digital-marketing pack. They can win by entering a video submission of their team doing the Jerusalema Challenge. This offer is open exclusively to Nedbank small-business clients who have completed either the Shifting Gears Get into Gear or Change Gear bootcamps.

The best entry will receive a digital-marketing pack worth more than R5 000. In addition, 200 entrepreneurs who are Nedbank small-business clients will be in line to win their share of R1 million in prizes. Business owners who have gone through the Shifting Gears programme get to choose the prize (advertising, coaching, cash or a website) that will propel their business forward.

In line with their ongoing commitment to do good, Nedbank has supported small businesses through the Covid-19 pandemic by offering solutions that go beyond banking and the ordinary Covid-19 relief aids. One such unique solution is the BackaBusiness movement, which helps business owners raise much-needed operating funds through crowdfunding with Thundafund. To date 639 backers have raised R655 926 for 61 businesses to keep them going.

Building on the BackaBusiness success, SimplyBiz introduced Shifting Gears to help entrepreneurs press the reset button through online learning. Get into Gear is for those seeking to start afresh, Change Gear is for those who need to reimagine and redesign their businesses, and Gear Down will help entrepreneurs downsize or close their business – all in eight steps.

Shifting Gears – What’s in it for entrepreneurs?

Entrepreneurs get to take purposeful action and work through a business bootcamp at their own pace, in their own time, on their own business. Those who complete the Get into Gear or Change Gear bootcamp will receive a copy of either The Nedbank Business Companion Guide, which is jam-packed with templates and useful business advice, or The Book That Every Business Owner Must Read, which taps into the insights of leading business minds and thought leaders.

Here is what some of the Shifting Gears thought leaders had to say:

  • Odette van der Haar: ‘The lockdown has been life-changing for me. I took a leap of faith and ventured onto a whole new career journey as the country came to a virtual standstill. I’ve had to apply everything I know about business, branding and entrepreneurship into this new chapter. Scary as it’s been, it’s also been so fulfilling and having had the opportunity to share my knowledge and experience during this time on the SimplyBiz platform has been a privilege, an honour and most fulfilling.’
  • Lesley-Caren Johnson: ‘The world – and indeed the way we do business – is changing at a rapid rate and we need to keep up. We need to embrace the change, possibly learn new skills, and be open to new ideas. Being part of a network like SimplyBiz opens up all sorts of possibilities and gives us access to other entrepreneurs and their experiences as well as resources we may never have been able to draw on. Take advantage of it!’

‘At Nedbank, we are mindful of the challenges and constantly looking at how we can partner to provide support where needed. The SimplyBiz platform is driven by entrepreneurs who share and assist each other with invaluable advice, especially in tough times,’ says Monique Chinnah, product owner of SimplyBiz.
