Hotting up for summer

It’s hard to believe that the Crumbs & Cream brand only made its appearance in March 2016, when sisters Shahar Ben Artzi and Or Lahat launched their Regent Road, Sea Point outlet selling ice cream sandwiches – a scoop of the finest creamy Italian Gelato wedged between two freshly baked cookies and finished off with various spreads and toppings.

Next they added a mobile truck at the V&A Waterfront and are now selling full turn-key franchises, with the hope of seeing Crumbs & Cream stores spring up across the country. If customer demand is anything to go by, it won’t be long before this is the case – there are not many dessert bars that can draw a 40-minute long queue in the middle of winter… and now that summer is here things are bound to hot up significantly.

When interviewed for the Cape Argus in August, the sisters admitted being excited for summer and a little afraid, given the overwhelming success that the business has experienced since entering the market. Attending their “summer menu” launch on Friday, it’s clear that they’ve made the necessary preparations with longer trading hours till 11:30pm from Sunday to Thursday and midnight and even later during the festive peak. They have also been hard at work on developing a range of new mouth-watering treats guaranteed to generate some holiday hype. The first big reveal is the Blondie – a vanilla-flavoured brownie made with white chocolate chunks; and then there’s the Churro Ice Cream Sandwich, made with the fried doughnut-like pastry that’s become a global rage. They’ve also added pretzel choc chip cookies, granola cookies and the Christmas Special Edition Red Velvet Cookie to the cookie line-up, and some new ice cream flavours including lemon meringue, apple pie, coconut and hazelnut chocolate to name a few.

If you’re looking to reach sugar heaven this holiday season, be sure to pay Crumbs & Cream a visit, at their Sea Point store, outside the Watershed at the V&A Waterfront, at their brand new Canal Walk mobile store next to Game, in the food court at Grand West, as well as at Cavendish Square next to Burger King.
